Brandenburger Tor

The Brandenburger Tor is maybe even the famoust thing to see in Berlin so here a little information. The Brandenburger Tor is build in 1788-1791. It was one of the few citywall gates, then if you wanted to go out the city you must pay toll. The statue on the Brandenburger Tor is an quadriga (an two-wheeled car with horses), in 1806 Napeoleon took the quadriga to paris like an war treasure. The original quadriga is destroyed in WW2, whats standing there right now is an replica. Sinds WW2 is the quadriga the symbol of freedom. In the splitting of Germany the Brandenburger Tor was on the eastside of Berlin and in that nobody was supposed to walk under the Tor. In 1956-1958 the Brandenburger Tor was restaurated and the quadriga replica has set on the Tor. And thats how he is right now!
